The sudden death of Lorenza A. Tabucolis, a domestic helper in Hongkong for 19 years is questioned by her family. She left the Philippines on 1997 to work as a domestic helper in Hongkong in hopes that she can give a brighter future for her children. On 2004, she was hired by an employer named Agnes Ip. She worked for Ip's family for 13 years when all of a sudden she was sent back to Philippines on August 5,2016 without any explanations.
Later on, the family of Tabucol learned that she was bitten by a snake back in 2015 when she is walking her employer's dog outside. She was given medicine by her employer however, her condition got worse. She became too weak but she never complained anything against her employer. She was brought to the hospital and was then diagnosed with breast cancer.
Instead of helping her to get medications in Hongkong since she has served her employer for so long, her employer just sent her to Solano, Nueva Vizcaya without explaining any further and terminated her contract.
All the savings of Tabucol , around S2000 (Php100000) was used up for her medications, but she died few months later. Her children learned that she may have gotten $36000 (Php1.8M) from her employer since she had served them for long years, however, Labor Attache Jailo dela Torre revealed that there are slim chances to recover the service pay amount from the employer since the long service pay claim must be claimed within 3 months after she was terminated.
The only assistance they will receive is the burial assistance from OWWA. Good thing that the eldest daughter of Tabucol already graduated before she died and that she can help to support her brother later on.
