An inspiring story in Hubei Province in China is making a buzz now online as this illiterate mother (Zou Hongyan) do whatever it takes and never gave up for his son (Ding Ding).
At 25 years old, Zou got pregnant with his son Ding Ding, however, doctors warned her that her son might not survived once born and that he is not worth to live as he will grow up with low IQ or paralyzed. Regardless of what the doctors have advised her, she still push through with her pregnancy, but her husband suggest to abort the child because they might suffer financially as well. She was devastated upon hearing it to her own husband so she files a divorce even at the back of her mind, she might not give him a good life.
Despite Ding Ding was born with cerebral palsy and asphyxia, she exert so much effort in taking care of him. She barely gets any rest as she works during the day and took Ding Ding at the doctor at night for his treatment. One night,it was snowing very heavy and the only way they can get to the doctor is through biking. The road is muddy and they fell from the bike. The doctor thought that they will not be able to come to the treatment that night as the weather is not good. To his surprise, the muddy mother and son showed up. The doctor was in tears as Zou even said, "The treatment for my son must go on no matter what happens".
Growing up is not easy for Ding Ding and Zou as his ability to learn is very slow. She taught him to be independent and not to rely on her. Her unconditional love for him was a success , Ding Ding graduated from Peking University's Environmental Science and Engineering School in 2011 and did his Masters at International Law School. Later on he started working, then 2 years later, he received another good news, he was accepted at Harvard University. "I have never dreamt of applying to Harvard. It was mum who kept encouraging me to try", he said.
Ding Ding is very lucky to have a mother like Zou, truly an inspiring story.
